Areas of sub-specialty in psychiatry accrued by Dr. Lerchin over the years have been in substance abuse, special education issues, post-traumatic stress syndromes, sexual abuse residues, residency training and psychopharmacologic treatments. Dr. Lerchin has already performed over 1000 medical-legal psychiatric evaluations. He has served numerous times in the capacity of expert witness, mostly in the arena of occupational psychiatry. Dr. Lerchin's medical-legal work has been almost equally weighted between applicant/plaintiff and defense sources. He has performed psychiatric examinations at the Center for Occupational Psychiatry, Inc. for more than one dozen years.

Harvey A. Lerchin, M.D. was trained as both a general and child psychiatrist in the State of Michigan Department of Mental Health. Throughout his career Dr. Lerchin has reserved a portion of his practice for the evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents. He has continuously maintained a presence with county community mental health services, as both a provider and a trainer of other health care professionals and educators.
